  • Introduction: Kornel Miglus

To bring the 18th edition of FilmPolska to a close, the biggest festival of Polish film outside Poland, Kornel Miglus, head of the festival for many years, presents one of the most original Polish comedies: REJS. A boat trip down the Vistula river. A man sneaks on board without a ticket and has himself elected chair of the entertainment committee, which ushers in a merry dance of absurd meetings, resolutions, election procedures and prescribed leisure activities. The ensemble of passengers consists of archetypes of Polish socialist society,  who go through the various surreal situations with pleasure. REJS is a brilliant satire on the petit bourgeoisie – and not just in Poland. In the middle of Communism, the film was only just passed by the censors. Today, it enjoys cult status – and not just in Poland.
